Another American city famous for its jazz-rich history. The Kansas City jazz style was developed there. It was popularized by famous African American musicians and bandleaders, such as Count Basie and Lester Young.
Count Basie (actual name William James Basie), was an African-American jazz pianist, organist, famous bandleader, and composer. In 1935, he formed one of the most famous big bands of all time (rivalled only by the Duke Ellington Orchestra), called the Count Basie Orchestra. In 1936, he took his newly formed big band to Chicago, and created his first recording. Count Basie went on to become the first African-American to win a Grammy Award. He won 9 Grammy Awards in total. In my (Sami's) opinion, his most famous tune is April in Paris. I highly recommend listening if you haven't heard of it already.
Lester Young was a member of Count Basie's orchestra, and one of the most influential tenor saxophonists.
Kansas City has the American Jazz Museum, which we will visit. Also, we will visit the Green Lady Lounge, which is the best jazz club in Kansas City according to some locals. For dining, we want to make sure to visit "The Majestic Restaurant and Jazz Club" at least once. We will be staying at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown hotel.
