Blues in Mississippi

Blues music has been one of the main influences for currently trending music such as rock, country, and even pop. Originally, this form of music was played on guitar and the performer solely sings for the purpose of expressing their emotions (usually some form of sadness). In the Delta Region of Mississippi, where blues music was first being introduces, the very first type of blues was created, which is called the Delta Blues.

Delta Blues is an outstanding way of performance due to its unique "fingerstyle" guitar technique. Additionally, the performer/guitarist would use a metal object such as a small pipe to bend notes and slide through chords, which gives the music a special texture. To learn more, we will visit the Delta Blues Museum in Mississippi. It's quite an old museum - founded in 1979.

Blues music has always been one of the most classic African-American genres of music and it still inspires myriads of musicians to this very day. We will go to Mississippi to experience the birthplace of blues firsthand.

Mississippi is where the legendary African-American blues musician B.B. King was born.

B.B. King

B.B. King

B.B. King was born on September 16th, 1925, in Mississippi. He was a fantastic guitarist and singer who was quite possibly the most important figure in the development of the blues genre. His own guitar style was influenced by previous Delta blues players, and other early blues musicians.

His chain of success began in 1951, when he released his "Three O'Clock Blues" record, which became a massive hit. Afterwards, he began touring the United States and the world for pretty much his entire life. It's estimated that he played 300 or more gigs per year while he was still alive.

He finally won his first of 15 Grammy Awards with his recording "The Thrill Is Gone." At this point, even rock guitarists were drawing inspiration from B.B. King. Later on, this would also influence newer pop artists, and so on.

B.B. King was and is known as the king of the blues everywhere around the world.

We will definitely make sure to check out the B.B. King Museum to learn more about the life of the greatest blues musician.

Dining, and Hotel

For dining, we will mostly look around and see what we come across. However, we want to make sure to go to F. Jones Corner at least once. It's apparently a great place for eating and relaxing while listening to some of the greatest blues hits.

Since we will be visiting many different cities in Mississippi, there's not a specific hotel we want to stay at. We will just decide when we are there.
